National Stem Cell Foundation of Australia

Every day, stem cells are saving lives: through bone marrow and cord blood transplants, and other proven treatments.

With rigorous research and clinical trials, they will save even more lives and alleviate human suffering. But caution is needed, particularly with experimental and unproven treatments being marketed to vulnerable patients.

The National Stem Cell Foundation of Australia is a Health Promotion Charity which promotes the study and use of stem cells to prevent and treat human diseases, and seeks to enhance public education in this field.

The Foundation’s work focuses on:

  • Assisting Australian stem cell researchers to pursue cures for diseases—many currently untreatable—using stem cell technology and regenerative medicine. This is achieved by funding promising researchers and projects identified through the guidance of an expert scientific committee.
  • Providing resources for patients and the broader Australian public on stem cell therapies and research, including its risks, achievements, benefits, overall technical progress, and the questions to ask their health care providers.

Thanks to the generosity of donors and bequests, the Foundation is supporting research into new treatments for heart failure, type 1 diabetes, inherited eye diseases, debilitating genetic bone and cartilage disorders, new approaches to cancer treatment and improving leukaemia survival, and more.

With your help, we hope to accelerate the development of new stem cell therapies to help even more Australians.
