Heart Research Australia

At Heart Research Australia we believe that research can reduce the devastating impact heart disease has on families and the community.

We invest in research projects aiming to:

  • improve prevention of heart disease,
  • provide more accurate diagnostics,
  • have more treatment options available for patients.

First and early-stage research does not often qualify for government funding. Heart Research Australia provides seed funding so researchers can get the results needed to qualify for large government grants and transform their research into live-saving treatments.

Such as a trial funded by Heart Research Australia where early triage in ambulance and the use of stents as first response to open coronary arteries, reduced death rates from 30% to just 2% at Royal North Shore Hospital. This is now standard practice around Australia.

Thanks to increasing discoveries such as this, the death rate from heart disease has been declining. However, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Australia.

Some of the projects funded by Heart Research Australia include developing new ways to repair damaged heart tissue, identifying genetic factors that increase the risk of heart disease, testing new drugs and devices to prevent or treat heart failure, and creating educational programs to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent heart disease.

Heart Research Australia relies on the generosity and support of the community to continue its vital work.

You can help by leaving a gift in your will. Together, we can make a positive difference for heart health and keep families together for longer.

Never losing anyone you love to heart disease.

Your dream,

Our goal.
