Butterfly Foundation

Butterfly is the national charity for anyone in Australia impacted by eating disorders and body image concerns, as well as the families, friends and communities who support them.
Every week, thousands of Australians are diagnosed with an eating disorder, with more than 1.1 million people affected each year. The prevalence among young people has almost doubled in the last decade, and tragically, over 1,200 people lose their lives annually to these devastating mental illnesses.
The personal, social, and economic impact is staggering. Eating disorders affect every aspect of a person’s life – their relationships, education, career opportunities, and most critically, their physical and mental wellbeing. For families and carers, watching a loved one struggle can be heart-wrenching, especially when faced with limited access to appropriate care and support.
But there is hope.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and bequestors, Butterfly is making real progress. Last year…
- Our National Helpline provided support through 22,768 contacts last year, with 56% being first-time users.
- Over 450 people participated in our Recovery Support Groups, nearly triple the previous year’s attendance
- Our prevention programs reached 317,940 young people across Australia, achieving our highest-ever reach in a single term
- We expanded our reach to 804 Body Bright Schools nationwide, exceeding our registration target by over 170%
- Our social media awareness campaigns reached over 4.2 million people.
However, there is still so much more to be done. By including Butterfly in your will, you can help ensure that future generations have access to the support, treatment, and care they desperately need. Your gift will contribute to a world where eating disorders are understood, prevented, and treated effectively, and where everyone affected can access the help they deserve.
