Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation

As the community foundation for Greater Melbourne, Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation has been supporting the changing needs of Melbourne’s community for 100 years, made possible through the generosity of many people who have left a bequest.

The Foundation is an independent philanthropic organisation with an outstanding team of knowledge experts in grantmaking, social needs and issues, and finance and governance. We work in partnership with our stakeholders to lead positive change through innovative and inspired philanthropy. This includes granting, community engagement, partnerships, research, sharing knowledge, influencing policy and impact investment. The Foundation is high regarded for its expertise and professional approach in advising donors about their personal philanthropy.

Annually, the Foundation provides grants of $12 million to not-for-profit organisations throughout Melbourne to increase life opportunities and promote social inclusion. Our grants program supports four Impact Areas including Homelessness & Affordable Housing; Inclusive, Sustainable Economy & Jobs; Healthy & Climate Resilient Communities; and Generous Melbourne.

At Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, we encourage engagement and participation in community philanthropy. A gift left in a Will to the Foundation leaves a perpetual legacy that creates positive ongoing social change in communities across Greater Melbourne.
